Townline Homes took on a number of ‘infill’ projects around Downtown. On Seymour Street Lawrence Doyle designed a 12 unit scheme on a 50′ lot overlooking Emery Barnes Park, completed in 2006. Like a number of the Downtown South sites the lot was last used for parking, but before that this was a residential neighbourhood.
One of only two projects completed by Chandler Developments in Vancouver, Tribeca Lofts shows how good a smaller project that is not allowed to be a tower can still be. Hancock Bruckner Eng & Wright’s design shows a very satisfying industrial loft styling. The rules for Downtown South allow only two towers on each block face, so this site could only be developed as a midrise building.
The completed building sat finished but unoccupied for some time as complex legal cases unravelled exactly who had really bought the units, and who merely thought they had. Eventually Mr Chandler had to abandon his career as a developer after the courts determined who had title to the completed condos.
